Chang Chernick
PERSIMMON LANE founder and designer Jennifer Chang Chernick was only five years old when she first became captivated with the beauty of Asian textiles and design. Jennifer's maternal grandmother ignited her imagination and senses with exquisite iridescent silks and embroideries from the family's camphor wood chest. In addition to her grandmother's influence as an embroidery expert, Jennifer's fashion sense was shaped by childhood travels around the world with her dynamic mother and her tenure at Chanel. Jennifer grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and studied at the University of California at Berkeley and L’Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Toulouse , France . While completing her Masters degree at Columbia University , she was hired by Chanel Inc. to analyze the China luxury retail sector and develop an entry strategy for the world’s largest and most complex market. Upon graduation, Jennifer was handpicked by senior management of Chanel to be the first and only full-time international marketing associate in the Chanel fashion and beauty empire with postings in New York , Paris , Taipei , and Hong Kong . She worked not only with top-level corporate executives, but also with beauty and fashion insiders, artists and design specialists, from research laboratories to manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Europe . After five years with Chanel, Jennifer left in 2001 to realize her dream of merging fashion and travel with the creation of PERSIMMON LANE .
Jennifer's extensive product development and marketing experience, coupled with her taste and design ability, underscore the originality and timeless quality of PERSIMMON LANE fashion. In addition, her intimate knowledge of world cultures and the business of fashion have attracted private label clients from beauty, fashion, art, and interior design communities who turn to Jennifer to create unique products and brand concepts.
Jennifer continues to challenge herself as a designer, pursuing jewelry, home and gift collections combining traditional craftsmanship with modern sophistication.
